Vaccination programme in Sussex marks first milestone - now it's time for the next priority groups
Since the start of December, teams have been vaccinating people aged 70 and over and those clinically extremely vulnerable. In addition frontline health and care staff have been receiving their vaccination as well.
Thanks to the hard work of NHS vaccination teams, we have achieved the national target and across Sussex more than 90% of everyone aged 70 and over has received the first dose of their vaccination.
Further to this, we have offered the vaccination to everyone in the four priority groups and remain committed to ensuring those remaining in those groups are vaccinated as soon as possible.
Across the country more than 15 million people have now had their first vaccination. Two further priority groups are now eligible for their vaccination – those aged 65-69 and those aged 16-65 who are living with an underlying health condition.
If you are aged 65-69, you are able to either book your appointment at one of the vaccination centres or pharmacy-led services by visiting www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119 free of charge - or you can wait and you will be contacted by your GP-led vaccination service.
If you are aged 16-65 and have an underlying health condition such as severe asthma, diabetes or lung disease, you will be contacted to have your vaccine by your GP-led vaccination service as soon as an appointment is available.
You can protect yourself by getting a vaccination when it is your turn. When you are eligible for a vaccination, please take up the offer as soon as possible.
