Bognor pub punters buy puppy for Canine Partners

A pub in Bognor Regis has bought a puppy for a charity which trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities.

The Wheatsheaf in Hawthorn Road had been raising money since May through raffles, sweepstakes and selling cuddly puppies to buy Orchid for Canine Partners. Orchid will take 18 months to train '“ learning 110 commands '“ at a cost of 8,500.

The Wheatsheaf's general manager Kevin Usher said: "These highly-trained assistance dogs completely transform the lives of wheelchair users, helping them with everyday tasks we all take for granted. From operating lifts or carrying out emergency response procedures, these dogs enable people with disabilities to get on with their lives and get back into education, employment and social activities."
