TWENTY new affordable homes have been opened with a fanfare in Hurstpierpoint.
Mid Sussex district councillor Christopher Snowling and Ivan Western of the Housing Corporation marked the opening of The Grange, Albourne Road, with a tree planting ceremony.
The development of eight houses and 12 flats for affordable rent and shared ownership aims to help address the housing shortfall in the area.
Many of the homes are for families and almost all the residents have already moved in. Persimmon Homes, Mid Sussex District Council and HydeMartlet housing association joined forces with the aim of creating 'a modern, vibrant rural community'.
A total of 65 homes will be delivered by March 2009. The development also includes play areas and a pond.
Vital to the success of The Grange was the funding provided by the Housing Corporation totalling £762,000.
