SHOREHAM could gain a slice of a £11.6million investment in transport if a bid by the South East England Regional Transport Board is successful.
Shoreham and Dover are in line for the investment from the government's community infrastructure fund after being named "growth points" this summer.
If the bid is successful, the transport board says the money for transport improvements will also support housing and economic development.
In Shoreham, the money would be used for new cyclist and pedestrian facilities to support access to a new bridge across the harbour and better transport links with Brighton and Hove, including cycling and walking paths.
Regional Transport Board South East England Regional Transport Board chairman Nick Skellett said: "The money would help ensure more sustainable development in Dover and Shoreham and surrounding areas, as investment in public transport, walking and cycling will help cut congestion.
"Providing the right infrastructure, in the right place, at the right time, is absolutely key for the future."
Neil Parkin, leader of Adur District Council, said: "We welcome any funding to get the antiquated transport updated."
